Teresa and Nelson are nominated for a DAISY Award

A patient’s daughter nominated Teresa and Nelson for a DAISY Award, praising them for their kindness and loving care.

The daughter wrote, “My father spent 10 days in the MICUI. His original prognosis was poor due to a hemorrhagic stroke and he had to be placed on a ventilator. Throughout his stay, we were on an erratic, emotional rollercoaster, but my dad’s nursing team was a calm presence. No one prepares you for a traumatic event. It’s a complete shock, and you feel stuck with no way out. If it weren’t for the kindness of several of my father’s nurses, I don’t know how we would have made it through his time there. I want to write a letter of appreciation to Nelson and Teresa, and I would also like to nominate them for a DAISY Award. I can’t put into words how much their presence meant to us during the worst moments of our lives, and they will have a special place in our hearts for the rest of our lives. My dad’s progress is an absolute miracle and would not have been possible without the angels on your unit. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Teresa and Nelson, your kindness and loving care meant the world to your patient and their family. Congratulations on a well-deserved nomination!

Kate receives a DAISY Award nomination

A patient nominated Kate for a Daisy Award for her exceptional care and kindness!

The patient wrote, “Words cannot describe what a positive birthing experience I had due to the support Kate provided. When I checked into labor and delivery, Kate explained everything in detail and empowered me to choose if/when I needed pain management. This was my first labor experience and it lasted 25 hours. Kate was quick to respond to any needs I had. She monitored me, shifted me into positions that helped my pain medication work and showed my husband counter-pressure massages to help me. She displayed a thorough knowledge of labor positions and tested multiple positions periodically to get the baby in the best position for pushing. When it came to pushing, Kate was extremely supportive and encouraging. She expertly explained how to push and encouraged me to push myself but also take breaks when needed. My 25 hours in L&D were especially positive due to my experience being so well taken care of by Kate. I’m grateful for Kate and all she did to make my labor experience so positive!”

Congratulations on the nomination, Kate! Keep up the great work!

Shirley and Melody are nominated for DAISY Awards

A patient nominated Shirley and Melody for a DAISY Award.

The patient said, “I’ve spent 28 years working in four hospitals in the United States. I’ve also been a licensed EMT. During that time, whether working or being a patient, I’ve known the nursing profession first-hand. It wasn’t until I was recently a patient that I discovered the epitome of what nurses should be, and those nurses’ names are Shirley and Melody. They stand out in the crowd as they lead the nursing profession by example. They were caring, personable and genuinely nice and they embodied the values of the nursing profession. They clearly define the depth and breadth of their commitment as nurses in their work ethic and with their calm, reassuring demeanor. Shirley took the time to tell me exactly what she was going to do, and Melody was quick to act when I was dizzy after the anesthesia. I believe the Nursing Mission Statement says to act with integrity, respect, transparency and humility in all they do. These two nurses embody all these things. What a team! Thank you Shirley and Melody for your kindness, compassion and dedicated commitment to nursing.”

Shirley and Melody, your quality care makes all the difference for your patients. Thank you for all that you do!

Rebecca is nominated twice for a DAISY Award

Rebecca received two DAISY Award nominations, one from a patient and one from a teammate! Here are her stories:

The patient wrote, “Any time Rebecca entered my room, she greeted me with a big, joyful smile, ready to help with the issues I faced, from understanding the pain I felt to simply ensuring I always had ice water to drink. I believe anyone in Rebecca’s presence will be blessed from the time she clocks in until she clocks out. She always had a positive attitude. I could tell she loves her job and what she does. She gave off great vibes to make sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. If I had to choose a nurse, I would choose Rebecca every time. No matter the pain level, she was there doing everything to help and went the extra step to make sure I was taken care of. Thank you for all your help and support.”

Rebecca’s teammate said, “Every time I work with Rebecca, she goes above and beyond to help her patients and fellow staff. She takes initiative and steps up to help other nurses pass meds during busy times. During an intense situation with a challenging patient, she made sure other patients had their doors closed to protect their peace and quiet. Each time she heard me attempt to redirect this patient, she would step in to assist. Her support, teamwork and hard work deserve to be recognized.”

Your patients and teammates appreciate you, Rebecca. Congratulations on the nominations! ...

Talia and Abigail receive a huge shout-out

This glowing shout-out comes from an Aya employee, who had an incredible experience with Aya travelers, Talia and Abigail, when she took her mom to the ER.

The employee shared, “My mom was 9 days post-op from a heart procedure that had taken a toll on her body. She was experiencing a high heart rate and debilitating weakness, creating great emotional stress. In walked Talia, and the mood immediately brightened. She smiled, assessed my Mom’s vitals and how she was feeling and listened to the responses she provided. Her smiling face, genuine compassion and ability to make my Mom feel cared for helped us get through the hours before a room was ready… and then we were twice blessed! My mom’s dayshift nurse, Abigail, was bright, cheerful and very caring! I asked if she was a staff nurse or a traveler. She responded by saying, ‘I’m with Aya!’ and I replied, ‘So am I!’  She praised her recruiter who had coordinated assignments for her, her husband and their friends all on the same unit and how much she loved Aya. She was so attentive to my Mom, explained everything patiently and conveyed her true compassion for the situation. These two Aya nurses provided clinical care for my mom, but they provided so much more with their smiles, listening skills and compassion with everything they did.”

Congratulations Talia and Abigail! Thank you for the work and care you provide!

Shonnee is nominated for a DAISY Award

A doctor nominated Shonnee for a DAISY Award for the high-quality care she provides.

The doctor said, “I have seen Shonnee give so much of herself since her arrival. She’s gotten numerous shout-outs from patients who appreciate her going the extra mile for them. She’s pushed back break times to ensure her patients are okay. I’ve seen her pull out her ponytail to put up her patient’s hair because they were in custody and could not do so themselves. She even gets the pediatric patients toys or blows up a glove and draws a face on it if she has to. She’s kind. She’s personable. She’s compassionate. She’s so patient. If I or my family ever got sick, I would want her as my nurse!”

Congratulations Shonnee, we are proud to have you on board with Aya!

A DAISY Award nomination was given to Terressa

A patient nominated Terressa for a DAISY Award for going above and beyond the call of duty.

The patient wrote, “I recently had a painful procedure that left me with an even more painful open wound on the back of my leg. The dressing needed to be changed daily, but because of the position, I couldn’t change the dressing myself, and Home Health only came every other day. I recently lost my husband, and I had no family to help me. Out of the goodness of her heart, Terressa came to my home and changed the dressing. She did this not as an employee but as a decent human being. This woman took time out of her life to use her skill and knowledge to help someone who desperately needed it. If it were not for her diligence and compassion, my healing could have been very different. I cannot thank her enough for her kindness.”

Terressa’s recruiter also mentioned she’s always getting nominated and is a real hero for her patients.

Well done, Terressa! Your patients appreciate your kindness and dedication. Keep up the good work!
