Emily receives a DAISY Award nomination

A patient’s mother nominated Emily for a DAISY Award for her touching warmth and heartfelt care.

The mother wrote, “We have been in the hospital for about three weeks and most of that time we have been in the ICU. Being here hasn’t been easy, but as soon as we met Emily, I have felt nothing but comfort from the way she has lovingly cared for my son and made sure he is alright. When moments arise when he isn’t alright, Emily is upfront with him, but also puts him at ease by telling him he is in great hands — which is 100% true. Emily is going to be our nurse for a second week, and I couldn’t be happier. As a mother, I want to feel safe about the people around my child, and I can tell you I feel 10,000% having her around my son. I’m so blessed to have met her, and she will forever carry a special place in our hearts!  We have had many great nurses during our stay, but Emily is just a special one for us!”

We are so proud to have you on our team, Emily! Congrats!

Jane receives a DAISY Award nomination

A patient’s family member nominated Jane for a DAISY Award, crediting her presence and compassion for making all the difference during a tough time.

The family member wrote, “My father-in-law was in the ICU and passed on November 18. Jane was our nurse the day we came in to make a decision to take him off any life-saving measures, and she was very kind to us during our entire stay, sitting by his bedside. She made sure he was as comfortable as possible and made sure we had everything we needed. In today’s negative world, we were blown away by her kindness. We still talk about how great it was to have so much support at a time when we needed it at the most.”

Congratulations on your DAISY Award nomination, Jane. You definitely deserve it!

The daughter wrote, “I was lucky to have Stephanie as my mom’s nurse at the worst time of my life. We decided to place my mom in hospice during her hospital admission. Stephanie’s hospice experience and knowledge really helped us during this transition. She is so compassionate, not only to the patient but also to the family. She helped me put things in perspective, advocated for my mom and myself, provided hugs and a friendly presence and made sure we had everything we needed. She is a true example of what a nurse should be. She made a strong connection with me, provided emotional support for our family and made a tremendous impact in our lives for the four days we spent with her.”

Brittney receives a DAISY Award nomination

A charge nurse nominated Brittney for a DAISY Award for her teamwork mentality and assistance to the unit.

The charge nurse wrote, “Brittney has worked as a travel nurse at our hospital’s neonatal ICU for almost a year. Today, she was floated to my floor, which is a post-surgical neuroscience unit. This particular day, we were extremely short-staffed, and Brittney stepped right in to help! You  never would have known her only experience was the neonatal ICU — she was so adaptable to the older kids. She was extremely kind and went out of her way to help the nurses with their assignments as well as going above and beyond for the kids on the floor.  Never once did she complain or say anything about working with a patient population that was different from what she usually cares for.”

Congratulations on the nomination, Brittany! Keep up the good work!

Stormaisha receives a DAISY Award nomination

A patient nominated Stormaisha for a DAISY Award for the attention and overall care she provided.

The patient wrote, “Stormaisha is very, very kind and a nurse you can depend on. In all my life, she is the first I have ever met who is so kindhearted. God bless her wherever she goes.”

Stormaisha’s recruiter added, “Storm is such a pleasure to work with. She made the leap from staff nursing to travel nursing when she was dealing with incredibly high patient ratios as well as high acuity in a medical-surgical unit that was much more of a PCU. She has transitioned to travel nursing flawlessly and I can’t wait to see the places she’ll go and the patients she’ll impact! I’m so proud of you Storm!”

Quality praise for a quality nurse. Congrats on the DAISY Award nomination, Stormaisha!

A patient nominates Heather for a DAISY Award

Heather received a beautiful nomination for a DAISY Award from a patient and fellow nurse who recognized her profound dedication to nursing.

The patient wrote, “Heather was my nurse on the night of my delivery, and she did incredible advocacy for me and my baby. When things got difficult for me, she took charge of the situation and got the anesthesiologist to help me. When the pain resumed, she got anesthesiologists to help me again. She comforted me while I got a second epidural in the midst of intense contractions when I was exhausted both physically and emotionally. She cheered me on when I was ready to give up. She was quick to act when my baby did not like what was going on, repositioning me and eventually getting the OB because he had to be delivered. She kept the room calm, took charge and guided anyone there to help me. Heather is an example what a nurse should strive to be. She was the kind of nurse anyone in my situation would have wanted to have. I will be forever grateful to her and the impact she had on my labor and delivery.”

What a touching story. Your patients appreciate you, Heather. Keep up the good work!

Hospital leaders praise Toccara for her outstanding care

A hospital’ CEO and emergency department director of nursing praised Toccara for the outstanding care she provided on two separate occasions.

For the first occasion, a patient’s husband and mother wrote a card that said, “Thank you for your four-plus hours of care, concern and great attitude during a very busy ER night. We really appreciate you. All the best wishes to you for a healthy wonderful 2023.”

For the second occasion, Toccara explained, “I was recognized for crushing the expected door-to-balloon time for a patient having an acute heart attack. Due to my keen assessment skills during triage, I immediately obtained an EKG in three minutes that revealed an active heart attack. The patient was rapidly placed in a core bed in the main ED where the ED and MD cardiologists could assess and promptly get the patient to the cath lab. Some people might wonder why this got so much praise when we do this every day, and it’s because the patient was not brought in by ambulance, so the staff didn’t have as much time to prepare for the incoming case. Additionally, this patient walked through the front door with her family and had atypical symptoms. I didn’t wait for her to finish the story. I asked the husband to relay further background so I could immediately obtain an EKG. And it’s a good thing I did! Lastly, because was no prep time, the team was not only able to conduct a very thorough and efficient STEMI Alert, we were able to crush the door-to-balloon time. Typically door-to-balloon time should be within 90 mins and we got it within 63 mins. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

Congratulations, Toccara! Your team appreciates you, and so do we!
