Aya to Award $10,000 in Scholarships to National Black Nurses Association

In the words of President Gerald Ford, who officially recognized Black History Month in 1976, it’s time to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”

Today, we promote the future of Black nurses through the establishment of The Aya Healthcare Scholarship for members of the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA).

We’re committing $10,000 to be distributed amongst five students this year.

Scholarship requirements:

–        Must be a member of The National Black Nurses Association

–        Based on previous academic achievement

–        Based on financial need

–        Must be BSN (or higher) candidate

–        Must be currently enrolled in a nursing program and be in good academic standing

–        Must have one full year of school remaining

–        Recipient intends to work in stepdown/PCU, cath lab or CVICU (These specialties are in chronic need of more RNs to meet the demand for their services.)

–        Deadline to apply is April 15, 2022

Application details can be found on the NBNA site.

The NBNA mission is “to serve as the voice for Black nurses and diverse populations ensuring equal access to professional development.” They believe in, “promoting educational opportunities and improving health.” We believe a culturally diverse workforce equals more culturally competent patient care, and we support the NBNA as they work to ensure access to the highest quality healthcare for people of color.

“The National Black Nurses Association is most grateful to Aya Healthcare for its generous support of $10,000 to the NBNA Scholarship Program”, said Dr. Martha A. Dawson, NBNA President/CEO.  “The scholarships will help some very deserving nursing students complete their nursing education and launch their nursing career.  The financial support that Aya Healthcare is providing shows its deep commitment to improving the nursing workforce…and, ultimately the status of our nation’s residents.”

At Aya Healthcare, we’re not only passionate about boosting community health, but about creating long-term solutions to the staffing issues experienced by the hospitals and healthcare facilities we serve. Helping create a pipeline of highly qualified RNs, and bolstering specialties that are chronically understaffed, is one solution. Providing a pathway to educational opportunities strengthens that pipeline.

We’ve always been passionate about access to education and educational equity. In addition to the Aya Healthcare NBNA scholarships, we offer the Future Travel Nurse Scholarship and work with UC San Diego to provide scholarships to students in need.

We’re continuously expanding our efforts to promote and support a diverse workforce of clinicians. Stay tuned, as we’ll share more throughout Black History Month and all year long!
