Lora is praised for her thoughtful care

A patient’s family member praised Lora for her thoughtfulness and exceptional patient care.

They wrote, “Lora took care of a patient whose son wanted me to ensure she was recognized, not just for caring for his father (the patient), but also for caring for him (the son). He stated, ‘Last night I had hardly eaten anything all day, and Lora went and got me something without me asking to ensure I ate, as I was worried to leave my dying dad alone. Lora truly is such a sweet person, and I am so thankful for her. Please make sure she is recognized not only for the wonderful nurse she is, but also for the beautiful heart she has — true kindness and caring for others. Thank you, Lora!'”

Lora, thank you for the care you provide your patients and their families. They appreciate you, and so do we!

Hawa is nominated for the DAISY Award

A patient nominated Hawa for the DAISY Award for her patient advocacy and calming nature.

The patient wrote, “I was supposed to be in the CTICU for a minor surgery that should have resulted in a three-day recovery period. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen complications, I was in the CTICU for 18 days. Hawa was my angel and kept me positive by not only being my nurse for my medical needs but, more importantly, becoming my friend for my mental health and my listening board. She listened, calmed me down when I was upset and offered suggestions and ways to relax. She was my advocate when I couldn’t advocate for myself. Without her care and support, I am not sure I would have made it through the CTICU with a positive attitude and outcome. Every now and then, you meet a stranger who ends up having an enormous positive impact on your life and Hawa was that person for me. I was truly blessed God put her in my life when I needed it.”

Congratulations on the DAISY Award nomination, Hawa! Your quality care means so much to your patients. Keep up the great work!

Allando receives the DAISY Award

Allando received the DAISY Award for his problem-solving skills and consistent positivity while caring for a patient.

In the nomination, the patient wrote, “I was admitted to the hospital on a Saturday with surgery planned for Monday. I was in a lot of pain, very sick and anxious. All of the nurses I had during my stay were nice, but Allando was beyond nice. He always came into my room smiling and was a great listener. He showed he cared about me as a patient with his great attitude. His positivity and thoughtfulness made my days in the hospital much more bearable. The machine I was hooked up to constantly beeped very loudly every time I moved my arm the slightest bit. I had a major headache, and the beeping was intolerable. I mentioned this to Allando once. He left the room and returned with a pad of gauze, which he taped over the IV line on my arm, and the beeping immediately stopped. I could move my arm freely, which helped me with eating, drinking water and moving. When other nurses asked what I had on my arm and I explained, they were duly impressed. I knew they would learn that trick to help others. Allando cared enough to come up with a solution. He had a full floor but never seemed bothered or frenzied. He kept his great attitude and caring style every time he came into my room. His caring, patience, knowledge and empathy were constant and are why I am nominating him for the DAISY Award.”

Thank you for your attentive and quality care, Allando, and congratulations on receiving the DAISY Award!

Hector is praised for his quality care

A colleague praised Hector for his patient advocacy and the way he takes initiative.

They wrote, “I want to recognize Hector for being a great team player and an excellent nurse. I’ve worked with him a few times while I was charge nurse, and I truly appreciated his support. One of the first things that stood out to me was during the implementation of the no-pass zone for call lights. I noticed Hector consistently answered call lights, even for rooms that weren’t his assigned patients. His willingness to help without hesitation showed his teamwork and dedication to patient care. Another memorable moment was when he noticed a patient’s abdomen was distended. Even though it was after hours for the NPs, he immediately took initiative by reaching out to the residents, ordering the KUB and securing the NG tube. He advocated for his patient, followed through and stayed on top of everything. The relief the patient felt afterward was unforgettable. It’s truly amazing to see a nurse take such initiative and advocate so strongly for their patients. His efforts are appreciated. He is truly a great asset to our unit, and I am very proud to have him as part of our team.”

Thank you for the stellar work you do, Hector. Your team appreciates your quality care, and so do we!

Michelle is praised for her expert care

Doctors recognized Michelle for her expertise and preparedness in critical situations.

They wrote, “I wanted to recognize Michelle for taking on a potentially life-threatening situation this past Friday. In endoscopic skull base surgery, the most challenging complication and true emergency is a carotid artery injury. Unfortunately, we ended up having to manage this as a patient from outside hospital with that injury was emergently sent to us. A complete understanding of all potential scenarios is critical for the OR team and specifically the OR scrub, which in this case was Michelle.

Originally, she was assigned to another room, and I made an urgent plea to move her to this OR given the real possibility of patient death, excessive hemorrhage, and other possible scenarios. By the time I got there, Michelle had set up every possible scenario, had all of the instruments coordinated, and all emergency equipment ready to go. With a little luck, and massive OR preparation, the injury was successfully managed and the patient was then sent to IR in stable condition. The M.D. staff wanted to recognize Michelle and sincerely appreciate her efforts in these complex skull base cases!”

Michelle, your attention to detail and quality care make a difference for your patients and team members alike. We appreciate the work you do. Keep it up! ...

Ashley is nominated for a DAISY

A patient’s family member nominated Ashley for a DAISY Award for providing exceptional care and showing compassion for the patient and their family.

The family member wrote, “My dad was transferred to the ICU from the ER in the early morning. We immediately felt at peace after seeing how Ashley gently cared for my dad as if he were her own. She calmly ensured his comfort as she acknowledged our arrival. Soon, she attended to us with gentle and sincere concern. I had many questions, and she patiently listened and then answered them. She made us (my mom and I) feel heard, especially during this time of many unknowns and after going through big decisions in the ER. My mom and I eventually learned that Ashley is half Filipino, so we even had a deeper connection with her. We appreciate her energy, her sincere smile, and eyes that made us feel she would help my dad and us get through this. Ashley is a joyful, positive, skilled, and compassionate nurse who took care of my dad and us like her own!”

Thank you for providing such amazing care, Ashley! Congratulations on your DAISY Award nomination. Keep it up!
