Traveler Specific Information

Working at Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) offers a unique opportunity for travelers to live in the island region of Micronesia. Before accepting a contract at GRMC, there are a few things travelers should prepare for. In order to be hired at GRMC, Compact Licenses are required for travelers. Finding housing on the island can also be challenging. Researching housing prior to accepting a contract and securing housing as soon as possible once a contract is accepted is recommended. For nurses looking to secure Aya-sponsored housing, let your recruiter know as soon as possible so that Aya’s housing team has enough time to secure a unit. Finally, due to the international nature of this assignment, the Aya-Sponsored Aetna medical plans will only cover emergencies. For emergencies, coverage is considered out-of-network and is handled on a reimbursement basis with much lower coverage limits. Prescriptions (unless related to an emergency) and non-emergency situations are not covered. It is highly recommended that clinicians traveling to Guam purchase supplemental travel medical insurance coverage as needed. Beginning December 1, 2021, Aya will offer comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance (including prescription coverage) for travelers in Guam. Ask your recruiter for details.

Advanced Medical Services

GRMC features best-in-class emergency, ambulatory and acute care for its patients. The emergency department features treatment, trauma, observation and isolation facilities, all fully staffed by seasoned nurses and hospitalists. The cancer and infusion centers provide comprehensive care and the most advanced treatments in the Western Pacific. The hospital also offers life-saving cardiovascular and neurovascular care that was previously unavailable on the island, including a state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratory. Experienced cardiothoracic and neurosurgeons have performed successful open heart, spinal and brain surgeries that in the past, would have required off-island emergency transport. GRMC’s imaging and laboratory services facilitate the accurate and timely diagnoses required to support the specialty treatments provided to patients of the hospital. GRMC’s advanced diabetes care gives patients limb-saving hyperbaric treatments to decrease the need for amputation. GRMC provides specialty services not provided anywhere else in the region.

Community Outreach

The HeartBeat is an Outreach and Community Support Program started by GRMC. The HeartBeat program allows GRMC to conduct and take part in outreach programs in addition to supporting local community events. The mission of the program to build community awareness and education on health within the island community. Community events include the Think Pink Social that raises awareness for breast cancer and the Weekly Walk initiative which encourages regular exercise and promotes healthier lifestyle choices to community members.

Under Water World

Under Water World is home to the Guam Aquarium Complex where visitors can immerse themselves in an Ocean Safari, observing sharks, rays, groupers, barracudas, jelly fish and other sea life. Dededo Morning Market

Shop like a local at the Dededo Morning Market. Early risers can purchase fresh produce and fish, then grab a bite to eat at one of the local vendors. Fruits and vegetables sold at the market are only ones that can be grown on the island, giving shoppers a unique assortment of local favorites like jackfruit and taro. On the weekends, you can also find many vendors selling souvenirs.
