Jasper Tolarba, one of Aya’s highly accomplished clinical team members, was recently chosen as an American Academy of Nursing 2022 Fellow for his extraordinary contributions to nursing and improving the public’s health. As a fellow, Jasper will help create and execute evidence-based and policy-related initiatives to advance healthcare.

The Academy is a professional organization comprised of experienced leaders in nursing education, management, practice and research. A Fellow Selection Committee reviewed a record number of applicants nationwide, narrowing it down to 250 remarkable nurse leaders through a rigorous application process.

“The American Academy of Nursing is one of the most prestigious organizations in nursing and being inducted validates the value I put into the work I do, specifically for the advocacy of internationally educated nurses in the U.S.,” Jasper shared about this opportunity.

With more than 25 years of nursing experience, Jasper has expertise in global nursing education, nursing mobility, migration and nursing curriculum evaluation. In 2015, he received his doctorate in nursing practice (DNP) with specialization in executive leadership, systems and policy from Yale University and is currently completing his second doctorate (Ed.D. in nursing education) at Columbia University Teachers College.

On top of his academic pursuits, Jasper has extensive clinical work experience, having served as the director of the psychiatry department at Tufts Medical Center and as the patient services manager at Yale New Haven Hospital. He currently serves as the principal of APEX Global Partners, a healthcare business solution focused on the recruitment of foreign-educated nurses. He is also a board-certified global nurse consultant, a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a 2019-2020 U.S. Fulbright Fellow to the Kingdom of Jordan.

Jasper hopes to use the Academy fellowship to inspire other nurse leaders and internationally educated nurses like himself to achieve excellence in their line of work. “Whatever they’re passionate about, I want them to know they can make an impact on their students, patients, peers and ultimately the entire healthcare system.”

With incredible clinical services team members like Jasper, Aya ensures patients and facilities get high-quality clinicians and makes sure those clinicians receive support while on assignment to continue providing the best care possible. Aya’s clinical team— made up of experienced nurse leaders, nurse practitioners, CRNAs and members specialized in allied — determines whether a candidate is a clinical and personality fit for specific units through assessments and clinical screenings. The team uses its expertise and knowledge of each facility’s needs and requirements to place clinicians in environments where they can thrive.

Jasper will continue supporting clinicians on the Aya team, but now he’s also looking forward to furthering his impact by helping the Academy strengthen the global nursing and healthcare workforce — and inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.

“I never in a million years thought that one day I would achieve the feat of being inducted into the Academy, so I’d like other nurses to see that someone like them was able to achieve this and see they can do the same,” said Jasper. “It’s not about the recognition. It’s about motivating others and hopefully making an impact on their lives.”

Congratulations, Jasper, on this incredible achievement! Aya Healthcare is so proud to work with exceptional team members who impact the healthcare industry.
