Discover Iowa

You can almost hear the heartbeat of the heartland in Iowa’s golden cornfields and green pastures. This is charming, quintessential, small town America at its best. The lush Iowa River Valley is home to the picturesque Amana Colonies where you can see what it was like for German immigrants in 1855. The inhabitants are proud of their roots and sell traditional food, quilts and other handicrafts.

If quaint towns and pristine plains don’t hold your heart’s desire, don’t despair. Iowa also has a surprisingly cosmopolitan appeal. The John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park in Des Moines has nearly $40 million worth of artwork on display and frequent outdoor concerts with popular musicians. The state capital also houses botanical gardens, a zoo, historic landmarks, shops and restaurants.

If you seek the outdoors, look no further than the 15,000 acres of glacial waters known as the Iowa Great Lakes. They offer the visitor peaceful seclusion or the promise of new friends and adventure in some of the more popular spots. In this incredible area you will find everything from fishing to carnival rides. Hike through the enchanted forest trails within Gull Point State Park and enjoy the sounds of birds and the fresh air until you reach a vista point with breathtaking lake views.
