Kristy Kicks off Her Aya Travel Nursing Career in Houston
Congratulations to brand-new Aya travel nurse Kristy! This native Wisconsinite recently started her first travel nursing assignment in Houston and she’s beyond excited to explore the area. Kristi says she’ll miss the snow, but she’s looking forward to discovering everything Houston has to offer. She’ll venture out to try new local delicacies, but she’s also on a mission to find a taste of home. We’ll give you one guess as to what delicacy she’s hunting for…cheese curds of course!
We’ve heard that when travel nursing in a new place, the transition goes down a little smoother when you find local brews to enjoy. Kristy must have heard that as well, because she’s out to explore the city’s breweries. Lucky for her, there’s no shortage in this happening town. We looked into Houston’s hot spots and found Karbach Brewing Company, known for having something for everyone, 8th Wonder Brewery, with its unique selection and Saint Arnold Brewing Company, one of the oldest craft breweries in Texas.
Doing something familiar (like sampling craft brews or finding a new twist on your favorite hometown cuisine) in a new place is a huge perk of any travel nursing assignment. For the sports fan, seeing new stadiums can also be a big plus and the Lone Star State is a great place to catch a game. Kristy notes that attending a Texans game is high on her list of must-do activities. She’s also a concert buff looking to check out a few local shows.
Kristy is already making the most of her new career as a travel nurse and she has advice for those hesitant to follow in her footsteps and give try travel nursing a try. She says, “Just do it! Life is too short to pass up such an amazing opportunity to travel the country with the career that you love.” Kristy can’t wait to make new friends and believes that everyone has an interesting story to tell, but she cautions, “you won’t be able to hear the stories if you aren’t willing to step out of your comfort zone!”
Every Aya travel nurse is given an expert support team, and Kristy’s is glad to know that her team will be there for her whenever she takes her own advice and steps out of her comfort zone. She loves that, as she puts it, “Whenever I see a call from San Diego, I always answer to the most chipper and sincere people on the other end!” We look forward to continuing to support Kristy throughout her travel nursing journey, and we foresee exciting times, delicious brews and hopefully, authentic Wisconsin-esque cheese curds, in her future.
