Do You Know Where Your Food Comes From?

November 22, 2017 | Aya Wellness

Food GratitudeNutrition has become very confusing. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be if we just go back to the basics.

Instead of getting caught up in the details of vitamins, minerals, calories and point systems, we can simply look back to human evolution to see what the body needs to function optimally. The human body was designed to eat food that comes from the Earth, instead of packaged and processed food. We’ve become disconnected from our food system because there are far too many choices and way too many diet rules.

By simply eating a variety of high quality foods you will get all the vitamins, minerals, fiber and nutrients that you need for your health to thrive. These foods include fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, high quality animal protein (if you eat animal protein), beans and whole grains.

If you’d like to use food to improve your health, it’s important to remember where your food comes from. There are a lot of factors that go into how food arrives to your plate. Consider the quality of the soil, sunshine, air, water, time the food was picked, the farmers and workers who tended to it, bug control, transportation, etc. This all happens without us having to do any physical labor in order to have food on a daily basis that nourishes us.

Another way to get more connected to your food’s origin is to go to your local farmers’ market. There you will discover fresh seasonal, local foods and have the chance to connect with the farmers.
