Here’s to the Holid-aya Spirit

December 29, 2021 | Aya in the Community

No matter who you are, it’s been a rough couple years. And things are even more difficult when your child has to spend the holidays in the hospital, your family doesn’t know where its next meal is coming from or you feel like you have less than others.

Spreading Joy

To brighten spirits, we sent a few of Santa’s helpers (and even Mr. and Mrs. Claus themselves!) to Rady Children’s toy store. Children, parents and caregivers were able to choose gifts that put smiles on a few young faces.

Feeding (More Than) the Spirit

Everyone loves spreading cheer, but some in our community need more than that. Food security is one of the pillars of our philanthropic program, because if you’re hungry not much else matters. So, it’s a good thing our neighbors at the San Diego Food Bank know how to stretch a dollar to feed those in need. Our $50,000 donation will feed 250,000 families this holiday season. Now, that’s something to celebrate!

Giving Time and Talent

Our employees have always been passionately committed to improving their communities. They push us to do more, give more and continuously be better. We’ve made donations to the following deserving organizations and want to highlight their good work. These organizations are in need of the gift of your time!

Promises2Kids gives over 3,000 current and former foster youth in San Diego County the tools, opportunities and guidance they need to overcome the difficulties of their past and grow into healthy and successful adults. They need volunteers to help put together kits for students and help with fun reunification days, supervising siblings who have been separated while they spend the day together.

Traveling Stories helps children fall in love with reading, build a sense of community, learn financial literacy skills and become self-advocates. They’re always looking for volunteers to help read to children and host book drives. And … they have virtual opportunities! All you need to make a difference is your computer and a giving spirit.

ARC of San Diego supports and empowers people with disabilities to achieve their life goals. They advocate for diversity of opportunity, enhancing each individual’s life choices. Volunteers are needed to make art, create craft and activity kits, record themselves cooking simple recipes or write uplifting messages (and more!) to be sent to ARC homes’ residents.

We hope you and your loved ones are safe, happy and healthy this holiday season. If you’re interested in giving back, contact Jamie Willeford, our volunteer liaison, at jwilleford@ayahealthcare.com.
