Giving Back From the Heart — With Aya, It’s Personal

November 18, 2019 | Aya in the Community

At Aya Healthcare, we strive to be one of the best places to work in San Diego, Los Angeles and other cities across the country. Creating an environment for our employees that allows them to be heard and understood is one of the pillars of our employee experience efforts. One way we work to support this is through our Philanthropy Committee.

What matters most to our employees fuels our giving back

Aya’s Philanthropy Committee is made up of employees of all management levels, departments and locations, all seeking to give back to their communities. The committee meets on a monthly basis to discuss foundations and causes that employees are passionate about — and how we can work to support those causes.

Some of these efforts include our Charity of the Month initiative, where Aya matches any reviews given online externally or internally (up to $500) for a different charity each month. This month, in honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month, we’re supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in their mission towards a world without type 1 diabetes.

In addition to our online efforts, Aya employees volunteer on a monthly basis, both with their team and individually. Our Los Angeles team makes an effort to spend a Saturday every few months volunteering at the LA Food Bank, while our San Diego office spends a few evenings a month serving families in need at The Ronald McDonald House or sorting food at Feeding San Diego.

Most recently, Aya was a sponsor for the  Walk to End Alzheimer’s for the sixth year in a row. This particular event was especially important to John Martins, Aya’s SVP, Operations Strategy, who lost his mother to Alzheimer’s a few years ago. “I was so grateful when I found out Aya Healthcare was also helping the fight for the first survivor of Alzheimer’s,” explains Martins, “It just shows how much Aya cares.” To hear more about John Martin’s story and his son’s unique way of fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association, watch the video below.
